Spectre

The name is Bond, James Bond.

007 is back in action, and this time, he is being pushed beyond the limits. Skyfall has paved way for the arrival of Spectre, 24th instalment of James Bond, and Daniel Craig’s 4th time reprising his role as 007.

Unlike the previous Bond movies Craig has played, the opening of Spectre has reverted back to the traditional way, with Bond walking pass the screen and taking a shot at the audience. Spectre started off with Bond settling a personal mission in Mexico, which is unsanctioned by MI6. His is tracing a villain named Marco Garcia (a named mentioned in a video sent from previous “M” to Bond after her death), which turns out to be a member of Spectre, a secret organization which will be revealed to Bond as the movie goes on. Bond then meets Blofeld, who is the mastermind behind all the tragic situations Bond had encountered starting from “Casino Royale”. Before the movie ends, Bond seems to have left MI6 behind, and chooses to continue his life with Swan (daughter of Mr. White), the woman he loves.

Spectre is nevertheless, in my opinion, another Bond film which lives up to its expectation. The story was well planned and presented smoothly. It continued the stories which were brought down from Casino Royale, where none of us knew, that Bond has already made his first encountered with a member of Spectre. The linkage between Spectre and the movies before can be considered as flawless. Also Spectre has managed to show the darker side of James Bond, who is willing to go beyond the extent and do everything that is necessary in order to save the person he loves and to protect his country. We also managed to see a Bond who believes in love, where he did everything he can to keep Swan safe and protected. If there is one thing that I’ll have to comment on, that will be Blofeld. He was too mysterious in the movie, even when he was revealed. However, that is who Blofeld is, head of a mysterious organization, hence the character should be mysterious as well.

No doubt, to me, Daniel Craig is considered as the best James Bond, followed closely by Sean Connery. His connection with James Bond has proven to be, unbreakable. He successfully portrayed James Bond as a cold-hearted, ruthless assassin, but at the same time, a man who knows how to love and treasure. There is a conflict in Craig’s Bond, but a conflict which I enjoyed. He doesn’t has the handsome look, and neither he is charming, but Craig has just got the Bond in him. A lot of people were criticizing Craig’s appointment as the new Bond when Casino Royale was announced as the next Bond film (I did had my doubts too). When Casino Royale was released, all the criticisms came to an end, as Craig showed the audiences he has got everything it takes to be Bond, not only Bond, but a close-to-perfect Bond. Daniel Craig is no doubt a true James Bond, and his name will goes down as one of the best Bond ever lived.

Rating: 4/5

(P/S: I’m a die-hard fan of James Bond, hence the rating might be biased as well. Should you not believe in my rating, watch Spectre, then you’ll know whether my rating biased or not.)
